Forte dei Marmi: the most charming beach resort in Italy.

If you have decided to spend your holidays in Tuscany, you definitely must visit Forte dei Marmi. Founded in 1914 and linked to the artistic work of Michelangelo Buonarroti, it is the most recent municipality of Versilia. Made famous by its marbles and its port, the city became an important center of maritime trade. In ‘700, the Grand Duke Peter Leopold reclaimed the area and built a fortification to defend the port. This took on the dual function of military garrison and customs, and became the center of aggregation around which Forte dei Marmi developed. The Fort has been located in the city center since 1997 and is home to the Museum of Satire and Caricature.

Best known for its sea and its nightlife, Forte dei Marmi deserves a visit also for its hinterland, rich in culture and ancient traditions. For shopping lovers, the town center is full of luxury shops and fashion boutiques that attract tourists as the most important art cities of Tuscany.
